El Amigo is still running their $1.99 Bottle Beers Monday & Thursdays. If you are not aware, El Amigo is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant. Not in the area, not in the state, just my favorite. Period. Just a week or so ago they held a fundraiser for a local girl with Autism and raised $750 so you can eat knowing that your money is well spent and also going back into the community. The average tab for my husband and I including tip is usually under $20. They updated their menu a while back, so if you haven't been in a while you can check it out here

Dragon*Con is next week so this and the next couple posts will be sparse as well but I will make sure you get a valid update of some kind every day.

Varsity BBQ & GISHWHES

We had issues accessing the site on Sunday and we have a short update for our first Wednesday post! Usually I will have a bigger review, with pictures and more detail, but today's update was off the cuff. Why am I unprepared when I knew this post was due? I am participating in GISHWHES and it will be taking over my life for the next few days.

Varsity BBQ (1907 S Cannon Blvd, Kannapolis)
I went to Varsity BBQ & The Party House for the first time as an adult today. I was surprised at how affordable and delicious everything was, I did not pay but I believe the ticket was well under $15 for two of us. My mom has been there a few times before so she decided that was where we should go for lunch. Mom got a gigantic BLT (with what looked to be an entire pack of super crispy bacon on it) and fries. I got a grilled cheese and fried pickles. The pickles were around $2 and were cooked correctly and not overly greasy. I did not get any desserts or pastries, but they do sell cupcakes that look delicious for $.50 a pop. My mother and I are both very picky, her more so than me, and if we can both eat somewhere and be happy you should find something you like.

Any downsides you ask? YES! They did not seem to have salted caramel brownies, but I am holding out hope that I just missed them.

Conclusion: If you are like me and have lived in the area for well over a decade but only passed The Varsity without stopping by I highly recommend you give them a chance. Visit their facebook page for more info.

Our new goal...

I am archiving old posts and I will be restarting the blog as of 8-14-13. There have been dozens of roadblocks and landmines in the last few years to getting this blog running smoothly again and I want to say thank you to those who kept coming back despite the infrequent updates. Our regular update schedule will be as follows:
Sunday- Entertainment. Sunday updates will feature upcoming events in the Kannapolis area.
Wednesday- Food & Dining. Wednesday updates will feature reviews, specials, deals, etc based on our local dining options.
Throughout the week I may also post news or guest posts. Guest posts can be on a wide variety of subjects dealing with the local area. If you are interested in contributing a guest post please send us an email.

Officially Unofficially ReOpening

I have been missing for a while. I was trying to stay current, but, due to a crazy work schedule I failed. I am now working in a different field and I am recommitted to helping people find things to do in the Kannapolis area. Starting August 11th, 2013 Unofficial Kannapolis will be updated weekly (or more often).

I will be bringing on at least one person to help with this task in the near future. Feel free to email me unofficialkannapolis@writeme.com if you want to encourage me to post, have something for me to list, or would like to submit a guest blog.

While you wait for me to update please check out the City of Kannapolis Website for a list of 2013 Summer Entertainment
